Maintenance Diesel? 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 Turbo 12-valve 5.9 L6?
Diesel truck maintenance suggestions? I recently inherited a 1997 Dodge 4 speed RWD Diesel collection. 300K. Bio diesel? Anyone know of high levels of diesel mileage? Pros and cons of the 12 valve engine? What are maintenance problems? oil change intervals (Royal Purple?), problems with fuel filter change intervals, things to take into account with regard this model, year, and the undercarriage? And Turbo? What is needed to continue running smoothly? Basically any suggestion would help. I've heard the last thing will go on Diesel is the engine. I just put in a whole new front ball joints, tie rods etc … Thanks! James
This truck will last forever. Period. All you need is to worry about clogging the fuel injectors to be so old, clogged muffler for the same reason, more soot released by the deisel and electric transmission (outputshaft speed sensor, pressure switch governor). It is not uncommon to see diesel trucks go twice that distance. Do not worry you'll be fine.
