Learning the difference between toy trains and model trains

I don’t know about you, but I have been fascinated with Trains and Toy Train stuff since I was a child. I started out with a small wooden train made by my Uncle Marvin, way before Thomas the Train. My first real train set was given to me at Christmas a huge Lionel, the one that had the smoke tablets you’d put in the smoke stack. I didn’t get play with for two days because my Dad and Uncle took control they liked trains too.

Nowadays things haven’t changed that as Thomas the Train has now stirred up many a boy’s fantasy about these great machines…little boys watching and playing with trains. Where does excitement come from? As boys become men this excitement never seems to leave, at least for me.

Why men and some girls still play with “toys” is beyond me. Could it be the thought of creating and controlling a thing so powerful even if it’s a fraction of the original size? Maybe it’s just trying to figure how they work, you know, like the electricity that makes it run. Or perhaps it brings back childhood memories. There’s something about a train running around the Christmas tree smokin’and tootin’ that has really intrigued me. Just as boys grow to men this toy train stuff has grown into Model Trains and scenic railways of complex proportions.

Most Toy Trains train today are of plastic, however you can find fine wooden ones if you know where to look. They are usually inexpensive and low quality, but a great way to get a child interested in trains as a hobby. As the child grows up, hopefully so does his choice in trains, moving on up from toy to model trains.

Model trains are also known as locomotives and are made to last. Better quality for sure, although some might need a small push to get them going.  Just like cars, some are better than others. Good quality
You will also have choices, as if electric wasn’t good enough, they have steam model trains also.,Just picture real steam flowing out against a scenic railroad. A sight to behold!

Well as you know, most of us aren’t going to grow up to be real train engineers, as we once dreamed of. The ones that did look to it as a dream job.  For those of us who still have that dream it really can be fulfilled by this great hobby loved by many: toy and model trains.
